Low-cost airports in Europe – how to reach them for the lowest prices, all possible options for public transport, transfers between neighboring airports.
To plan your travel budget, you need to consider not only the cost of the flight but also the transfer to and from the airport. It often happens that a flight bought on sale costs as much as the airport transfer there and back.
Low-cost airports can be quite an expensive pleasure. When buying a cheap flight with low-cost airlines, most passengers are unaware of the extra expenses awaiting them for the transfer from the airport. A ticket for 10 Euros can become 2-3 times more expensive when the airport is located 50-100 km from the city.
So I wrote the current prices for 2026 and transport options from the most popular low-cost airports.
Stockholm (Skavsta) – NYO (105 km from Stockholm)
Tickets to Stockholm are among the cheapest, but airport transfers are not cheap. There are three ways to get from the airport to the city:
- The Flygbussarna shuttle bus goes from the airport to Stockholm Central Railway Station (Cityterminalen). Ticket price online – 12 Euros (129 Swedish kronor) one way. The ticket is valid in either direction for 3 months. Travel time – 1 hour 20 minutes. The timetable is coordinated with the flight schedule, the bus usually leaves half an hour after the plane lands.
- Bus No. 515, which goes to the neighboring town of Nyköping and stops near the bus station. Travel time — 10 minutes, ticket price is 2.9 Euros (3 Swedish kronor). Then transfer to the train to Stockholm. Travel time – 1.2 hours, one-way ticket costs from €16.5 (177 Swedish kronor), can be purchased on the resrobot website.
- Flixbus bus from 15 Euros.
Milan (Bergamo) – BGY (45 km from Milan)
In Milan there are two airports: Malpensa, Linate and Orio al Serio. The low-cost carriers Ryanair and Wizzair fly to Orio al Serio in Bergamo and Malpensa. When buying tickets with a transfer in Milan – check which airport you arrive at and which one you’re departing from. If they are different, you need to plan a longer connection and transfer between these airports. Getting to Malpensa airport is easy and cheap – trains run there from Milano Centrale station. Travel time – 40 minutes.
There are different ways to get from Bergamo airport to Milan city center:
- Shuttle buses Terravision, or Autostradale, or Orioshuttle – both companies take passengers to Milano Centrale railway station. The ticket for both transport companies costs 12 Euros one way (online on the website – 10 Euros). Buses run from 4:00 to 00:45 every 20 minutes, travel time — 50-60 minutes. Tickets are sold at airport ticket offices with the corresponding bus company names.
- From the airport to the Bergamo railway station, city buses of ATB company run every half hour – the ticket price is 2.3 Euros one way (15 minutes travel time). Tickets from the driver. At the railway station, transfer to the train to Milan – price from 6 Euros (tickets at the counter). Travel time – one hour. ATB buses run from 5:20 to 00:30.
- For transit passengers arriving at Bergamo airport BGY and departing from Malpensa airport MXP (and vice versa), a shuttle of Orioshuttle company runs between the airports – cost one way 20 Euros. Travel time is 1 hour 50 minutes. Buses run from 5:30 to 19:45 every 50 minutes.
Barcelona (Girona) – GRO (103 km from Barcelona)
Arriving at this airport with low-cost airlines, you can safely stay for a few days in Girona. If you need to go to Barcelona, you can use the following options:
- Buses of Barcelona Bus to Barcelona (station Estació del Nord). One-way ticket costs 16 Euros, round trip – 25 Euros. Travel time – 1 hour 10 minutes. The bus schedule coincides with the flight arrivals.
- Shuttle buses Terravision take passengers to various resorts on the Costa Brava coast – Malgrat de Mar, Santa Susanna, Pineda de Mar, Calella, Blanes, Lloret de Mar. Tickets from 12 Euros one way
- Trains Renfe – run between the cities quite often.
Brussels (Charleroi) – CRL (60 km from Brussels)
Charleroi airport is purely a low-cost hub served by Ryanair and Wizzair. You can buy very cheap tickets here, but getting to the city of Brussels will cost a bit more.
- Shuttle bus Flibco – ticket one way – 15.2 Euros, travel time 55 minutes.
- Bus No. 68 or No. A from the airport to Charleroi station – 4.2 Euros one way, travel time – 10 minutes. Then train to Brussels station – travel time – 1 hour, ticket – 9.9 Euros. Buy at https://www.belgiantrain.be.
Warsaw (Modlin) – WMI (36 km to Warsaw)
Warsaw has two airports – the main named after Chopin, located on the outskirts of Warsaw (it can be reached by public transport). And the low-cost airport Modlin – 40 km from the city center. The thing is, both these airports are served by low-cost airlines: Ryanair flies out of Modlin, and Wizzair from the central one. Since budget travelers often combine flights of both airlines, you need to calculate the time and money needed to get between these airports.
There are several transport options to Warsaw Modlin airport:
- Buses Flixbus – ticket costs 13 Euros (45 zloty), stops at Warszawa, Metro Młociny or Warszawa, Zachodnia
- Train of Koleje Mazowieckie company, running from Modlin to Warsaw at Warszawa Zachodnia railway station. Although there is no railway station near the airport, at the exit from the air terminal, buses with Koleje Mazowieckie branding stop, which will take you to the local railway station in 10 minutes. Buses and trains run every 20-30 minutes, you can buy a single ticket (Airport Ticket) at the ticket office, which entitles you to travel by bus and train. Its cost: 4.5 Euros (21.3 Polish zloty).
London (Luton) – LTN (48 km from London)
This is the largest low-cost hub for EasyJet, Ryanair and Wizz Air. The transport link between Luton airport and London and other cities is provided by the bus companies Green Line, easyBus, and National Express. Most transport operates between Luton airport and the London Victoria railway station.
- Terravision shuttle – 13 Euros to London one way, travel time – 1.5 hours.
- Bus National Express – 14 Euros (12 pounds) one way.
- Bus Megabus – 13.5 Euros (11.61 pounds) one way.
Paris (Beauvais) – BVA (75 km from Paris)
Ryanair and Wizzair fly to this airport, which is quite far from Paris. We went to Paris by bus, which is scheduled according to flight arrivals and departures. On the way back, our fellow travelers missed the bus, so they took a taxi to Beauvais – it was three times more expensive.
- Shuttle bus, whose schedule matches the flight schedule. The bus usually leaves half an hour after the plane lands. Ticket on the spot 34 Euros round trip; ticket bought on the website aeroportparisbeauvais.com – 29.9 Euros round trip. Travel time – 1 hour 15 minutes. Buses to the airport depart from Porte Maillot station in Paris, which is located very close to the RER station with the same name – line C, and the Metro – line 1.
- Train from Beauvais station, which can be reached in 15 minutes by bus No. 6 and No. 4 – 1 Euro. Schedule on oise-mobilite.fr. The train goes to Gare du Nord in Paris. Travel time – 1.5 hours, one-way ticket costs from 15 Euros. Tickets on the French railway website.
Munich (Memmingen) – FMM (110 km to Munich)
When buying a ticket to the airport Munich FMM, many confuse the names. Like Paris Beauvais, it is located far from Munich, and the ticket price to the airport is not humane at all. There are several ways to reach this airport:
- Buses Allgäu Airport Express, run 5-10 times a day timed to flights’ arrivals. In Munich the buses arrive at the Main Railway Station, travel time – 1 hour 20 minutes. Online ticket price 9.9 Euros, more expensive from the driver.
- Flixbus bus – tickets 16 Euros.
- Bus or train bbs – tickets for this bus can be purchased separately.
Rome (Ciampino) – CIA (15 km to Rome)
Ryanair flies to this airport – flights from many European cities. But this airport is more intra-European and less loaded than Rome Fiumicino (FCO), which serves flights worldwide. But the low-cost carrier Wizzair flies from Fiumicino, so if you want to know how to get there you can check here. How to get to Ciampino airport:
- Suburban train from Roma Termini station – every 15 minutes during the day. Travel time – 15-20 minutes. Ticket – 2.7 Euros.
- Bus Terravision departs more than 10 times a day to Termini station. One-way ticket is 6 Euros. Travel time — 45 minutes.
- Flixbus bus – 6 Euros one way.
Eindhoven (Amsterdam) – EIN (120 kilometers to Amsterdam)
You can fly to Amsterdam directly – to Schiphol airport, which is the base for KLM. Or you can take the budget option, via Eindhoven airport, served by low-cost airlines Ryanair and Wizzair. But the distance to Amsterdam is very large, how to overcome it most economically?
- Shuttle bus Airexpressbus – price online 22.5 Euros one way, 38.5 Euros round trip. At the airport ticket office – more expensive (24 Euros and 40 Euros respectively).
- Bus No. 400, No. 401, No. 10 – travel time 25 minutes, for Ukrainians who left the country after February 24 – free, one-way ticket costs 4 Euros. Transfer to the train to Amsterdam Central Station. One-way ticket costs from 12.9 to 21.5 Euros (depending on time and day of the week). Travel time – 1 hour 20 minutes.
