Where to see lavender fields in Europe – the best locations for photos

If you think that lavender grows only in France, I hasten to please you—it is cultivated in many places in Europe. Even in unexpected places—nowadays you can see lavender fields in the northern countries. So, save this guide to purple fields and mark the spots on your map. Maybe you’ll find one on your way or there’s a lavender field near your home, and you didn’t even know it.

Provence, France

The best place to see lavender fields in Europe is Provence, France, especially the Valensole plateau, the Luberon valley, and Sault. The peak bloom is usually from late June to mid-July. We were here in summer and it’s incredibly beautiful!

The best spots to see lavender fields in Provence, France:

  • Luberon Valley: Famous for its picturesque purple fields against a backdrop of hilltop villages like Gordes and Saignon.
  • Sault Plateau: Located at a higher altitude, making it ideal for late-season viewing (from mid-July to early August).
  • Senanque Abbey: A stunning, iconic spot where monks tend lavender fields in front of a 12th-century monastery.
  • Drôme Region: Located north of Provence, offering quieter, “wild” lavender fields around towns like Grignan and Nyons.

Chodouň, Czechia

Czechia also boasts lavender fields and even the largest organic lavender field in Central Europe. There are several farms in Czechia specializing in lavender cultivation. A few kilometers from Prague, in the village of Nezabudice, there is an organic lavender farm.

  • Křivoklát – There is a small farm not far from Prague.
  • Lavender Valley – in Chodouň. On this farm, you can literally “immerse” yourself in fragrant lavender—you can enjoy one of the wellness or relaxation SPA treatments with lavender.
  • Lavandia Farm – in Starovičky near the Lednice-Valtice chateau complex. Stroll the lavender path at the lavender farm. We once stopped here while traveling through Moravia.
  • Bezděkov Lavender Farm – near Olomouc – lavender massage among fragrant bushes is available by prior reservation.

Lavender Farms, United Kingdom

Surprisingly, you can find breathtaking lavender fields throughout the United Kingdom—if you know where to look. Below is a collection of the most beautiful lavender fields the United Kingdom has to offer.

  • Castle Farm Lavender, Kent. Walk through the emerald-green landscapes of Kent, and you’ll find the tranquil lavender fields of Castle Farm, whose beauty (and size—130 acres, making them the largest fields in England) is guaranteed to amaze you.
  • Hitchin Lavender, Hertfordshire. Located between London and Cambridge, you can easily reach it by train and spend your day wandering postcard-perfect fields. At Hitchin Lavender, visitors can pay £7.50 to stroll through the fragrant rows from mid-June to the end of August, before settling down in a 17th-century barn for a well-deserved lunch.
  • Yorkshire Lavender Farm. This quiet corner combines soothing flowers with fun and games—imagine a lavender maze, a sensory garden, and a Mediterranean dry garden, all ready and waiting to entertain you.
  • Mayfield Lavender Farm, Surrey. Located near London, ideal for a day trip. Visitors are free to roam the rows, explore, and take photos. From central London, the best way to reach the lavender field is to take the train from London Bridge to Purley, then bus 166 to Oaks Park.
  • Cotswold Lavender. Not far from the beautiful Cotswold village of Broadway and minutes away from picturesque Stow-on-the-Wold and Bourton-on-the-Water, Hill Barn Farm grows lavender as a crop, not just for photoshoots, which means it is harvested in early August. After admiring the endless lavender rows, turn your gaze to the kaleidoscopic wildflower fields—chamomile and poppies are also grown on the farm.

Lavender in Italy

There is lavender in various regions of Italy, and it is impossible to list them all. Here are a few lavender farms where you can enjoy magnificent fields.

  • Il Lavandeto di Assisi. In Castelnuovo di Assisi, the Lavender park of Assisi (Lavandeto di Assisi) offers three hectares of lavender fields, including rare varieties such as white and pink. Each year from mid-June for roughly four weekends, the Lavender Festival is held here.
  • Lavanda Polesana, Ca’ Mello, Polesine – Veneto. The “Lavanda Polesana” field in Ca’ Mello, near Porto Tolle in the Po river delta, Rovigo province. Lavender in bloom, a rich aroma, a farmhouse in the background, and the buzzing of bees filling the silence—it’s a rare sight for Veneto, but definitely worth seeing.
  • Monferrato – Piedmont. In early summer many areas of Monferrato take on a thousand shades of purple. The largest lavender areas can be found in Castelnuovo Don Bosco, 20 km east of Turin. There is still the old Rocchia distillery here, famous for its essential oil production.
  • Santa Luce Hills, Pisa, Tuscany. Tuscany offers many places to enjoy blooming lavender, from Maremma to the hills of Chianti Fonterutoli and Castellina, from the Santa Luce hills to Massarosa. In the last decade many abandoned fields have been transformed into lavender meadows. One of them is in the Pisa hills of Santa Luce, as part of the project “La Valle Dei Profumi”.

Brihuega (Brihuega), Spain

Very close to Madrid, you can feel as if you’re in the middle of Provence with its lavender fields. Just an hour’s drive from Madrid, in the province of Guadalajara, hidden in the woods, you’ll find this little gem—lavender fields. So you don’t have to go all the way to Provence to enjoy this sight.

This area is known as Jardín de la Alcarria, where one of the most important lavender plantations in Spain is located. You need to come to Brihuega, to the stretch of road to Malacuera, passing this village for a few kilometers. When you get to this area, there is a large open space where you can park your car without any problem—there is a parking lot with toilets.

This is where the Lavender Festival is celebrated, right in the fields. You can also take a hot air balloon ride.

Address: Road GU-925 from Brihuega to Malacuera, 7.7 km.

Baden, Germany

If you are looking for a weekend trip that combines nature, good wine, lavender fields, and local color, these experiences and picturesque spots can be found along the Baden Wine Route.

Right near Kaiserstuhl, you will find gorgeous fragrant lavender fields blooming a rich purple from late June to mid-July, along with the buzz of bees and that unmistakable summer aroma.

The fields are owned by the Klingenmeier family, who also run a charming little farm shop just around the corner. At Lavendelshop Kaiserstuhl they sell handmade products made from their own lavender: essential oils, soap, pillow sprays, dried bouquets—everything simple, high quality, and refreshingly unpretentious.

Usually, you can’t walk through the fields, but you can admire them from the side. It’s best to pop into the shop first; there they’ll tell you the best spot for viewing.

Cobusca Nouă, Moldova

The lavender fields in Moldova were the first I ever saw in my life. Lavender has been cultivated here for a long time, and in recent years new field locations have appeared. We passed by and saw most of them while traveling through this country. I highly recommend it, especially the places that are not very touristy.

The best time to visit the lavender fields in Cobusca Nouă is the third week of June.

Nearest city: Chisinau – this is a convenient base to make trips by car to lavender locations.

The Largest Lavender Fields in the World, Bulgaria

The world’s largest producer of lavender oil is now not the famous French Provence, but little Bulgaria.

In fact, Bulgaria has been the leader for the past few years, since most of the lavender fields in Provence were damaged and have yet to recover. China, second in line for this title, has replaced them with other agricultural crops.  .

In Bulgaria, the number of fields is only increasing each year, and now more are planted in the north. Fragrant lavender fields are everywhere in Bulgaria, but it’s hard to pinpoint them all on a map.

Lavender fields are now widespread throughout the country, and you can find them near Burgas, Nessebar, Tyulenovo, Kavarna, and many other regions. Here are a couple more fields: here and here.

Kuyucak, Turkey

These beautiful and huge lavender bushes can be seen just 1.5 hours north of Antalya, in Isparta province. We came here in July, during our road trip around Turkey. The bushes bloom beautifully and there are many—plenty of room for everyone’s photo sessions.

Interestingly, local lavender bushes are very different in size from all those I’ve seen in France, Moldova, Ukraine, or even Czechia. Here they are simply gigantic—the bushes were taller than me. But their origin turned out to be French.

You can arrive here as part of a tour. But the best way is to rent a car and come whenever is convenient for you. We did this at Antalya airport, booking the car in advance.

Field location: Kuyucak village, Isparta.
