Hiking in Portugal: Palmilhar Portugal.
The longest circular tourist route is being created, which will become the country’s longest circular hiking trail with a length of 3000 kilometers.
Hiking enthusiasts in Portugal can look forward to a new circular hiking trail that will be created in the next three years. “Palmilhar Portugal will be almost 3,000 kilometers long and will cross 90 to 100 districts of the country.
In principle, tourists can walk across the country from the north in the mountains to the south. The first labeled part of Palmilhar Portugal will open in July 2024. The starting point is Alenque, north of Lisbon. Additional sections are planned to be opened in the coming months.
Following the opening of the first part of the route this summer, routes in Alentejo, central Portugal and the mountainous region of Tras Os Montes will open in the coming months. The company plans to open 15 routes across the country by the end of the year.
An app is being developed specifically for the Palmilhar Portugal hiking trail with appropriate routes and accommodation options. The route is planned to be made accessible to people with disabilities.
