For some reason, it is believed that Germany is the country of Christmas markets. But here’s an interesting fact: Polish Christmas markets are actually among the best. They have their own traditional charm and festive spirit and should be a must-visit for anyone who wants to experience the holiday mood.
Also, Polish markets are the most budget-friendly, as prices here, unlike in Germany, Austria, or France, are not high at all.

Overall, Krakow is considered one of the best Christmas markets in Europe. The Christmas market takes place in a part of the central Rynek Glowny Square, right next to the famous Cloth Hall. The market is compact and original, focusing on traditional food and Polish goods. It is adorned by a huge Christmas tree, which creates a magical atmosphere with festive decorations and twinkling lights.

One of the highlights of the Christmas market in Krakow is the traditional carols that take place throughout December. The sounds of singing fill the air as locals and guests gather to celebrate this special time of the year.
Of course, the Christmas market experience is incomplete without tasting traditional Polish dishes. Here you can try a variety of mouthwatering foods—from pierogi to sausages and kielbasa. Don’t forget to sample the famous Polish gingerbread, which is the main sweet treat of the festive season.
Keep in mind: technically, the Christmas market in Krakow runs until New Year’s. But after Christmas, many stalls are emptied and closed. Only a few stalls remain open after Christmas, so these days feel like an afterparty when most guests have left.

Wroclaw is a wonderful place, often underrated both at Christmas and at other times. The Christmas market is of decent size, but there are far fewer people here than in Krakow. The atmosphere is much calmer and almost family-like, compared to elsewhere in Europe, thanks to the warm and friendly people.
The Christmas celebration takes place on the main Wroclaw Market Square. Every year, nativity scenes are set up around the square, and holiday restaurant huts are installed. There are also carousels and attractions here. The main Christmas tree of Wroclaw is lit in the middle of Advent—on December 6.
