Port de Pollensa in Mallorca: a resort for those who love the sea, beauty and tranquility

Port de Pollença is one of the most pleasant resorts on Mallorca. We stayed for a vacation in several towns, and this one we liked the most. There is no feeling of a “tourist conveyor belt” here like in some of the island’s more popular spots.

Instead—a wide bay with calm water, beautiful sandy beaches, a long promenade under the pines, gorgeous sunsets, and mountains nearby. This is a place to come for beautiful relaxation, not for loud parties: to swim, walk, travel around, and simply enjoy the atmosphere.

Who will enjoy a holiday in Port de Pollença

We traveled together with our daughter and were delighted with this place. It’s quiet, with no feeling of package tourism around, peaceful people, great restaurants.

This resort is especially enjoyed by:

  • families with children—calm sea and convenient beaches;
  • couples—for romantic strolls and dinners by the water;
  • those who love beautiful scenery;
  • travelers who want to combine a beach holiday with trips around the island.

Port de Pollença is the place where you can lie on the beach during the day, and in the evening stroll along the sea with a glass of wine and mountain views. Or in the morning, get in a rental car and in an hour find yourself in the most beautiful coves of the island, or in the middle of the Serra de Tramuntana mountains with incredible cliff and sea views. And in the evening, breathe pine-scented air by the sea.

When is the best time to go on holiday

The most pleasant time for a holiday:

  • May – June—already warm, but not too hot yet;
  • September – early October—the sea is very warm, fewer people around;
  • July – August—ideal for those who love the heat, but there are more tourists at this time.

If you love peace and quiet, it’s better to choose June or September.
We were there at the beginning of October. The water was warm, the air not so hot anymore. There was one rainy day, but it didn’t spoil our plans—there’s plenty to do on the island, even in rainy weather.

What are the beaches like in Port de Pollença

Main beach Port de Pollença

This is a long city beach with fine sand and a very gentle entrance to the water.
The sea here is calm, almost no waves, so it’s a great option for children.

Nearby—cafés, sun loungers, SUP rentals, and everything needed for a comfortable day by the sea.

Pine Walk / Albercutx

The most beautiful part of the resort. Pines grow along the shore, and the promenade looks very atmospheric. The beach here is only partial, not wide, but it is realllly beautiful here!

This place is more for quiet relaxation:

  • morning swims;
  • walking;
  • beautiful photos.

Llenaire / Tamarells

A quieter part of the bay with fewer people. Ideal for those who don’t like crowds.

Cala Boquer

A small wild cove that you need to walk to.
There are no services here, but the water is very clean and nature is fantastic.

Cala Formentor (nearby)

If you have a car—definitely take the trip. This is one of the most beautiful beaches in Mallorca: pines, clear water, and postcard views.

I know that in peak season there can be a lot of people here. But we went in October—the beach was empty and almost no one was there. Choose less busy months for your holiday and you’ll have this beauty just for yourself and a couple of families.

What to do in Port de Pollença

Port de Pollença is not the type of resort where you need to just sit on the beach. There are many pleasant things here that make the holiday special.

What to do in the town itself:

  • walk the famous Pine Walk promenade, lined with luxurious pines that create shade;
  • sit at a restaurant by the water—they are of course more expensive than those just off the beach, but the incredibly beautiful views and the lapping of the water are worth the slightly higher price;
  • rent a SUP, kayak, or boat—explore the hidden coves by water;
  • ride a bicycle—road bikes and cycling routes are a feature of Madeira, so if you love that and are able, rent one or bring your own and enjoy the scenery and roads;
  • watch the sunset on the shore—actually, the sun sets just behind the mountain, not into the sea, but everything around turns beautifully pink anyway.

What to see nearby:

  • Old Town Pollença—beautiful stone streets, Calvari steps, and a cozy atmosphere.
  • Cape Formentor—one of the most stunning panoramas of Mallorca. Best to go in the morning.
  • Boquer Valley—a great route for a light walk.
  • Alcúdia—old town, market, and a long beach.
  • Serra de Tramuntana mountains—for those who want to see a different Mallorca: wilder and more spectacular.

Where to stay: accommodation options

Port de Pollença is a comfortable resort, so there are various accommodation formats here.

Classic hotels with breakfast

For those who love good and familiar service and atmosphere:

  • Hotel Illa d’Or—a very beautiful hotel on the promenade, great location at the end of the pine alley along the sea. Fantastic quiet pool next to the apartments with luxurious sun loungers catching the sun from different sides. The breakfast buffet is excellent—a wonderful opportunity to eat outdoors by the sea.
  • Hoposa Pollentia—convenient location on the promenade. The hotel is minimalist in style, but with all the amenities of a 4-star hotel. Ideal location on the front line overlooking the beach. The breakfast is exceptional for a small hotel. There is a rooftop bar with great views of the bay.

Resort / all-inclusive hotels

For a peaceful vacation with no extra worries:

  • Cabot Pollensa Park Spa—Plenty of parking, a bike rental point right in the building, and all the amenities—sauna, pool, and breakfast area. Great entertainment day and night, lots of activities for kids and adults. You can walk to the center of Pollença in 20 minutes.
  • MarSenses Puerto Pollensa Hotel & Spa—Perfect location, only a 2-minute walk from a great beach and all shops. Staff exceeded expectations for service, food is excellent in quality and variety, the hotel is very clean, the spa center is wonderful. Adults only.
  • Hotel Uyal —amazing location right by the beachfront. Pleasant and very attentive, helpful staff. Rooms always clean. Very tasty and varied breakfast and dinner.

Apartments

For families or those who love freedom, there’s a small kitchen for self-catering, and pools in the apart-hotel areas. These aren’t classic apartments, but holiday complexes with apartments.

  • Hoposa Villaconcha—excellent facilities such as a spa, gym, and a pool with swim lanes. Also excellent for families with children thanks to the heated water park, trampoline, billiards, and table tennis. Great breakfast choice and attentive staff.
  • Cabot Hobby Club Apartments—great location opposite the beach. Large pool with plenty of loungers; pool area is in the sun all day. Very clean and tidy; friendly staff; apartments cleaned every other day. The apartments are a good size for two people—excellent value for money.
  • Aparthotel Flora—We stayed at this apart-hotel to be able to make breakfasts. But honestly, there are so many good cafés and restaurants in town that we almost never cooked ourselves. If you plan to stay in Port de Pollença for a long time, apartments will be a very convenient place to stay.

How to get from Mallorca airport to Port de Pollença

The most convenient—by car

We rented a car at Mallorca airport and enjoyed traveling the island. The drive from the airport to Port de Pollença takes about an hour. This is the best option if you want to see not just the resort, but the surrounding area as well.

Bus

You can get there by public transport, but with a transfer, and it will take more time. From the airport there is a direct bus to Alcúdia No. A32, there you need to change to bus No. 322. Or go from the airport to Palma de Mallorca by bus A1 to the main bus station—and from there, bus No. 301 to Port de Pollença.

Taxi or transfer

Convenient if you are traveling with children or don’t want to think about logistics. Find good deals on Kiwitaxi.

How Port de Pollença is different from Alcúdia

This is a common question because the resorts are located nearby. But they are quite different from each other.

Port de Pollença:

  • more peaceful;
  • visually more beautiful;
  • more atmospheric;
  • less hustle and bustle.

Alcúdia:

  • busier;
  • more large hotels;
  • more entertainment;
  • longer beach.

If you want a stylish, peaceful, and beautiful holiday—Port de Pollença is better.
If activity and developed infrastructure are important—look at Alcúdia.

Useful tips

  • Book accommodation in advance, especially for summer—for one, it can save money, and two, the best options are gone at the last minute;
  • Rent a car for at least a few days—you’ll have time to see much more;
  • Go to Cape Formentor early before the crowds, but know that in high season you can only get there by bus;
  • Choose accommodation closer to Pine Walk for the nicest atmosphere.

Port de Pollença is the type of resort you can easily fall in love with: everything here is about a beautiful, easy, and very comfortable holiday. That’s exactly how it was for me—I highly recommend it if you love a respectable atmosphere, beautiful views, good restaurants, and, of course, pines above the sea like I do))
