And they are well worth it! The 135-kilometre Georgian Military Road runs through mountain gorges and passes. At the same time, it can be traveled by an ordinary car\u2014a 4&#215;4 is not necessary. You can manage it in one or two days for $30 for the rental and $20\u201330 for petrol. You will not need an SUV for this trip\u2014the road quality is excellent. Even the road to the Gergeti Trinity Church has been paved (although, admittedly, it is still falling apart).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To choose a car, the easiest option is to use an aggregator that will calculate the rental cost for the dates you specify and immediately offer several options to choose from. In Georgia, the following aggregator has proven reliable  <strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/discovercars.tpo.lv\/K83b4Oex\" target=\"_blank\">DiscoverCars<\/a><\/strong>. Select the dates, city, and place where it is convenient for you to rent a car; in the filters, specify what type of car you need (an SUV or a regular passenger car)\u2014the site will show you all available options, with prices and insurance included in the rental cost. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you do not want to drive yourself, you can hire a driver with a car. On average, you can manage it for $80\u2013100 per day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Minibuses to Stepantsminda depart from Tbilisi \u2014 they leave from the station <strong>Didube <\/strong>(the bus station and metro stop of the same name in Tbilisi). A minibus ride costs 12 lari ($4). However, to see all the places listed below, you will need to keep changing from one minibus to the next. With the transfers, it will cost two to three times more. You will also have to spend more than two days on the trip \u2014 which means accommodation and food expenses. In the end, it will cost the same as renting a car. But if you do not have a driver\u2019s license and are on a tight budget, traveling by minibus is also an option.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-sights-along-the-georgian-military-road\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sights along the Georgian Military Road<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now, in order \u2014 here is what you can see in one or two days on the way from Tbilisi to Stepantsminda and back. It is located 25 km from Tbilisi, on a high cliff rising above Mtskheta and the highway leading from Tbilisi toward Kazbegi. These walls, with remnants of ancient frescoes untouched by modern restorers, breathe history. It was here that Saint Nino of Cappadocia brought the good news. And one of the greatest sacred relics of the Christian world is kept here \u2014 <strong>the Holy Tunic of the Lord<\/strong>. Mtskheta is located at the confluence of two mountain rivers \u2014 <strong>the Aragvi and the Kura<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I recommend reading: <strong><a aria-label=\"Mtskheta and its surroundings in one day \u2014 the main attractions. Located 75 km from Tbilisi in an exceptionally beautiful place \u2014 on the shore of <strong>the Zhinvali Reservoir<\/strong>. The view from here is breathtaking!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-the-confluence-of-the-white-and-black-aragvi-rivers-and-a-mineral-water-spring\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The confluence of the White and Black Aragvi rivers and a mineral water spring <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A short stop to see an unusual phenomenon \u2014 where two rivers meet: <strong>the Black and White Aragvi<\/strong>. Nearby, there is a spring of narzan mineral water. There are several good restaurants along the highway that serve not only khinkali but also excellent shashlik. A rather steep series of hairpin bends leads here, and traffic jams of cars and trucks often form along it. The reason is that a large volume of cargo from Armenia and Georgia, as well as transit trucks from the port of Poti to Russia, travels along the Georgian Military Road. All this truck traffic begins to slow down considerably on the hairpin bends, causing congestion. There is nothing else to do in the village, although for a change you can visit the church in Lower Gudauri and take the gondola lift to the top of Mount Kudebi, which offers a magnificent view of the Lomisi Range.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I described my skiing experience in a separate article: <strong><a aria-label=\"in Gudauri in spring\u2014when there is plenty of snow and few tourists. Kazbegi does not always emerge from behind the clouds, so it is worth spending the night here to see the snow-capped mountain peaks bathed in sunlight in the morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/www.journeys6senses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/IMG_1929-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9982\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.journeys6senses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/IMG_1929-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.journeys6senses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/IMG_1929-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.journeys6senses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/IMG_1929-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.journeys6senses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/IMG_1929-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.journeys6senses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/IMG_1929.jpg 2000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And at the same time, drive up the neighboring hill to <strong>the Gergeti Trinity Church <\/strong>\u2013 an amazingly beautiful place from which you can see Kazbek on one side and, on the other, the seemingly dollhouse-like houses of <strong>Stepantsminda<\/strong>. The lower waterfall is slightly smaller, while the upper one, located higher up in the gorge, is twice as high and especially powerful in spring. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Approaching it means getting soaked through to your underwear.
