But we wanted to feel a little bit of Christmas mood, because we had already been to Prague many times for the holidays and needed to change the usual picture. So we took <strong>Flixbus<\/strong> tickets and traveled to Nuremberg, which we have never regretted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.journeys6senses.com\/en\/xmas-in-germany\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Christmas in Germany \u2013 the most beautiful fairs<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-getting-to-nuremberg\">Getting to Nuremberg<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-by-airplane\"><strong>By airplane<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They fly to Nuremberg airport:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Ryanair<\/strong> flies from Krakow, Tallinn, Vilnius, London, Budapest, and many airports in Italy and Spain.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Wizz Air<\/strong> &#8211; from Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Sibiu, Tirana and Varna<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Pegasus<\/strong> &#8211; from Istanbul<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You can fly to Nuremberg from Amsterdam with<strong> KLM<\/strong>.  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Air France<\/strong> flies from Paris.  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airport-nuernberg.de\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\"><strong>airport<\/strong> <strong>Nuremberg Airport<\/strong><\/a> the city is very quick and easy to get to by subway (line U2) &#8211; travel time is 10-15 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-by-train-and-bus\"><strong>By train and bus<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An alternative option is to fly to Munich, Frankfurt, or Prague. These are large cities with airports located 2-4 hours away from Nuremberg. From here, you can take FlixBus buses, a train, or rent a car.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you arrive in Munich or Frankfurt, it is convenient to use a single ticket for 49 euros per month, which can be used to travel throughout Germany on suburban trains. The German has a single <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.journeys6senses.com\/en\/49-ticket\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">49\u20ac-Ticket &#8211; a new travel card in Germany<\/a><\/strong>.  <br><br>From <strong>Prague<\/strong> a little longer &#8211; by bus <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/tp.media\/r?marker=18026&amp;trs=21963&amp;p=4083&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fglobal.flixbus.com&amp;campaign_id=136\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">FlixBus<\/a> <\/strong> &#8211; the travel time is slightly longer &#8211; 4 hours. That&#8217;s why I chose hotels outside the Old Town, but if you have an unlimited budget, it&#8217;s certainly better to stay in the old part to be in the epicenter of events.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Hotels in the center of Nuremberg:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.booking.com\/hotel\/de\/central-nurnberg.en.html?aid=1145018&amp;no_rooms=1&amp;group_adults=2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hotel Central<\/a>\n<\/strong> &#8211; in the heart of the city, 2 minutes from <strong>Hauptmarkt<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.booking.com\/hotel\/de\/melter-amp-apartments.en.html?aid=1145018&amp;no_rooms=1&amp;group_adults=2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Melter Hotel &amp; Apartments<\/a>\n<\/strong> &#8211; is a very stylish and not too expensive hotel in the city center.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.booking.com\/hotel\/de\/oldtown-studios-by-dp.en.html?aid=1145018&amp;no_rooms=1&amp;group_adults=2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Oldtown Studios by dasPaul<\/a>\n<\/strong> &#8211; is a studio apartment with a kitchenette for those who plan to stay in Nuremberg for a few days.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.booking.com\/hotel\/de\/hotelelch.en.html?aid=1145018&amp;no_rooms=1&amp;group_adults=2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hotel Elch<\/a>\n<\/strong> &#8211; is a small boutique hotel for those who appreciate pleasant service and a feeling of being at home.  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I chose a hotel just outside the Old Town. I read a lot of reviews and I advise you to stay near the train station in the Marienforstadt area. There are many chain hotels located close to the center, the station, and the Flexbus stop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Hotels near the center:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.booking.com\/hotel\/de\/central-hauptbahnhof-nurnberg.en.html?aid=1145018&amp;no_rooms=1&amp;group_adults=2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hotel Central City Hbf N\u00fcrnberg<\/a>\n<\/strong> &#8211; clean new rooms, good location near the train station and the center.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.booking.com\/hotel\/de\/novina-hotel-wohrdersee-nuernberg-city.en.html?aid=1145018&amp;no_rooms=1&amp;group_adults=2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Novina Hotel W\u00f6hrdersee N\u00fcrnberg City<\/a>\n<\/strong> &#8211; We stayed here for one night, booking a discounted room on a weekday. We didn&#8217;t take breakfast because we wanted to taste a delicious breakfast in a Turkish brunch cafe <strong>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/hane-nuernberg.de\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Hane<\/a>\n<\/strong>.  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.booking.com\/hotel\/de\/leonardo-royal-nurnberg.en.html?aid=1145018&amp;no_rooms=1&amp;group_adults=2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Leonardo Royal Hotel N\u00fcrnberg<\/a>\n<\/strong> &#8211; is a very well located hotel a stone&#8217;s throw from Old Nuremberg.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-to-see-and-visit-in-nuremberg\">What to see and visit in Nuremberg<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nuremberg suddenly turned out to be a very beautiful and cozy city &#8211; we came here for the <strong>Christmas<\/strong> <strong>market<\/strong> and the mood. Every year it is held on the city&#8217;s main square, the <strong>Hauptmarkt<\/strong>. It is also one of the oldest Christmas markets in the world. Since the end of November, pavilions with handmade delicacies, souvenirs and toys, and the aromas of hot wine, grog and fried sausages have been set up throughout the Old Town. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">More than 180 market stalls are decorated with fresh greenery and lights for <strong>Christmas<\/strong>. Christmas nativity scenes are built around the village, with bright stars shining above them. The capital of German Christmas welcomes its guests with famous Nuremberg gingerbread, sausages, mulled wine, and a cozy atmosphere.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-pale-pink-background-color has-background wp-block-paragraph\">It is <strong>important to remember<\/strong>: The Christmas market closes on December 24 at 14:00. In Germany, Christmas markets are open during <strong>Advent<\/strong>, and on <strong>Christmas<\/strong> <strong>Eve<\/strong>, in the afternoon, the city will be <strong>empty<\/strong>. Especially delicious are the handmade <strong>Nuremberg gingerbread<\/strong> <strong>Elisen<\/strong>, the recipe for which came from the great-grandfather of the current owners of the Wojtinek bakery and has remained virtually unchanged to this day.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Buy a mulled wine glass as a souvenir &#8211; since 1990, a new design has been introduced every year.  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Buy traditional Christmas decorations of all shapes and sizes: Christmas tree ornaments, <strong>Rauschgold<\/strong> gold foil angels, plumed men &#8211; <strong>Zwetschgenm\u00e4nnle<\/strong> made of prunes.  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Another cool theme is <strong>micro-toys, utensils, household items<\/strong> &#8211; all to create your own home nativity scene, and a doll&#8217;s house with all the things you need for life. At the fair, I saw several stalls with such micro-items. This tiny city within a city, surrounded by a mighty stone wall, resembles a portal to medieval Bavaria. It is here that the Christmas market is held. And not only it &#8211; for example, in May and September, one of the largest flea markets in Germany gathers here, where you can find amazing antiques. This is the place where the history of Nuremberg began almost 1000 years ago. You can enter the castle for free. But to get to the museum inside the castle, you need to buy a ticket. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So you can walk between the castle towers without a ticket. And from the observation deck, Nuremberg and its red roofs and church bell towers are in the palm of your hand. In the middle of the twentieth century, it was used as a dormitory for university students. There is a monument to a hare under the castle on <strong>Tierg\u00e4rtnertorturm<\/strong> Square near the house where he lived, which looks very similar to the hare from D\u00fcrer&#8217;s painting &#8220;The Young Field Hare.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 1984, the German avant-garde animalist J\u00fcrgen Hertz created a kind of parody of the painting, the sculpture D\u00fcrer&#8217;s Hare. A huge bronze animal is taken out of a wooden box. A little bunny huddled on the box next to it.
